The village people

Hello there old friends - I'm finally coming up for air after our move and thought you all might enjoy an update on La Famille.  It has been a completely bonkers month and a half but we are through the worst of it now and looking forward to a calmer remainder of the year.

As you know from my last post, we moved from our Dupont Circle townhouse in mid-September to a rental.  The new house is located in the tony neighborhood of Chevy Chase Village, a place right out of central casting for the quintessential American suburb.  The women are all strong, the men are good looking and the children are all above average.  Just joking.  But seriously, the houses are lovely, the yards are all perfectly maintained and the trees are all tall.  There are lots of cushy services like a home checks by the village police when you are away, a town hall that can keep a spare copy of your key and a list of neighborhood teens looking for odd jobs.  It's all very civilized and quite a contrast from the city.

Of course, that doesn't mean we don't miss our city lives.  But I have to say that both Matt and I are spending far less time in the car now than we were before and that alone has made a huge difference in our quality of life.  There is nothing like avoiding morning rush hour in a car to start your day off right.

Most of the boxes are unpacked - we've agreed to spend one more day going through the house to unpack any remaining boxes and hang any last pictures before putting our pencils down until the next move.  We have even had time to go on two short trips since I last wrote:  the first to visit my parents in Arizona (and to see my sisters and nephews) and the other to attend a wedding in Sonoma.  See below for some highlights:

This is the "van" that picked up our family of 6 plus a babysitter at the airport in Phoenix.
Can you say mortifying?
